Here\'s the Deal.

Well, school starts tomorrow...and you\'ve probably noticed that I haven\'t posted a whole lot. Er...at all, really.

Wian9k is taking a break. No, it isn\'t dead forever, and yes, it will be back someday. When that someday is, I can\'t say.

But I am keeping the site up, at least. You can access all the old archives with all the posts, including the ever-loved Boston video. On a side note, the Orchestra is going to Austria later this year...expect an awesome video from there as well.

So...live without wian9k for now. It isn\'t dead, it\'s just in a prolonged coma. But if/when it does come back, you\'ll hear about it, I promise.

Harry Potter and the Half-Dead Mitchell

I know I\'m not supposed to post anymore, and don\'t get your hopes up because of this, but my experiences the other night were just too....abnormal...to remain un-posted. I mean, the situation practically screams, \"POST ME ALEX!!! POST ME!!\" So I did.

Harry Potter and the ~~Half-Finished Puberty~~ Half-Blood Prince came out at 12:01 midnight last night, making nerds (aka. Harry Potter Fans) of all shapes and sizes stay up waaaay too late to get their hands on a book valued second only to the Bible. How do I know? Well, you see, I was there.

Now, before you say \"OMFG, Mitchell is such a book-loving nerd geek freak,\" you should know that I didn\'t actually make this decision until 11:45 that night. I figured, what the hell, it\'d at least be cool to see all the creepy nerds. That, and I\'ll get a sweet post out of it.

Well, it did, kind of. But, after being yelled at by a lotta my friends that liked the old posts, i decided to restore the original index.php.

Not-Briefly: New Design, SCHOOL BE OUT!!!

[Okay, I had an inspiration, so I made a post before this one below about yearbooks, i\'d suggest reading it first.]

Well, the new design is officially finished. And when I say \"finished,\" I mean, \"not finished, but it works as well as it\'s ever gonna.\"

Phew...that was a lot harder than I thought it\'d be. Making this site work with stupid IE, that is. In today\'s post, I\'ll go over what I did, and on what browsers it\'ll work.

Also, SCHOOL\'S OUT!! YEA!! That\'s pretty sweet, besides the fact that SOMEONE *cough* LAUREN *cough* got me sick, so I\'ve been at home with little to do. But at least it gave me time to make this work in crappy IE.

Over the next week, I\'ll be posting up stuff from various writers; I\'ve already got two lined up by Vivi and RJ. RJ\'s is over a week old...so sorry to him, and all those waiting for it. It\'ll either be up tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, depending on how many people see this.

So...ok! Let\'s do this thang.

The Yearbook Signature Awards 2005

The end of year marked mass hysteria, strife, and, of course, yearbooks.

Everybody loves yearbooks, especially signing them. I signed a ton of yearbooks, because it\'s fun to sign your name on things. That\'s how graffiti was born.

At any rate, today\'s post is all about arguably pointless yearbook signatures. And, I\'ve started a new tradition: The Yearbook Signature Awards. That\'s where I honor the best/worst/longest/crappiest signatures signed in my yearbook, and a list of quotable quotes.

That\'s probably what you said when you saw this new design. Yes, it\'s very cool*. No, it isn\'t *completely* finished...but I promised you I\'d have it done today. Don\'t be surprised if you find a bug. Or two. Or ten.

I\'m sorry...but I really don\'t have time to elaborate on all the changes right now; i\'m on my way to a party celebrating the fact that SCHOOL BE OUT!!!! (yayness!). I\'ll go over it in detail this weekend, along with an end-of-school-year post.

*Note: the site might (and when I say \"might\" I mean \"almost definitely\" look like total crap in any version of Internet Explorer. I will get around to fixing this...but first I have to figure out why it isn\'t working. Shame on IE and their non-CSS compliant crappy browser. If you happen to be running on explorer, click here to download Firefox in the meantime, because the site looks great on Firefox. But, as always, it still looks best on Safari. Any mac users should view this w/ Safari.

So yeah, sorry I can\'t elaborate more right now...but I will this weekend, promise. For now, just poke around a lil\' and see the cool new color scheme. If you find a bug, comment on this post with it, and I\'ll get to fixing it this weekend. Remember; I have no idea how this looks on windows, so you guys gotta help me.

Asian Parents

OH MY FREAKEN GOD, THIS IS THE 2ND TIME I\'M WRITING THIS POST THINGY... LAST TIME IT DIDN\'T FREAKEN WORK. SO IF IT DOESN\'T WORK NOW, I\'M GOING TO FREAKEN SHOOT MYSELF.

Hi everyone - I\'m so sorry I haven\'t updated in...forever, but things\'ve been really busy with stuff, namely certain english teachers giving certain assignments that require me to go insane.

PALS... and Mitchell

[This is Vivi\'s first post. Note the basic speech and elementary language that define her writing style ;) By the way, whenever you see something in brackets, that\'s something that I (Alex) wrote]

So last night at 11 something, I realize that we had a speaking PALs today. Me and french...don\'t...go together... I SUCK at it. You can ask Mitchell...I\'m sure he\'ll agree. [I do.]

Anyways, I spent a good 20 mins studying for french *which is an awfully long time for me* and went to bed at 12ish, feeling crappy in the morning as I always do.

I get to french to learn that the computer lab that we were supposed to use is in use for the people who faked sick during the SOLs. The whole class was cheering, thinking that we didn\'t have to do our PALs. Yea, our little celebration didn\'t exactly last too long. Instead, we had to do our PALs one on one with our teacher staring at us 0_0.

Windows vs. Macs

[This is Hwan K\'s first post, and the first post by one of the new writers. You can tell why I chose his first :) ]

Well, as this is my first post, I will be helping Mitchell here in his quest to make all computer users Mac users...
About 3 weeks ago, I purchased a laptop made by Apple. This was done after many months of comparison and deal searching on the web. I found that I would go with the suggestion with Mitchell and also with the knowlegde gained from my research to purchase the very laptop I am usng now :). I have to say, I was blown away by this machine!!! The capabilities, sexy paint job ;P, and overall user-friendliness was great. Before, I was a hardcore Windows user but, after purchasing the PowerBook G4, I think my views have totally been changed...

Open Call (For Writers)

It was the Boston video, I think, that mainly contributed to the bizillions of new people that come to this site now...like, we\'re averaging 143 unique (26 new) people every day. That\'s the most this site has ever gotten, like, ever.

That being said, I think it needs to be updated more often...and I can\'t do it all the time like I used to. So, as of now, I\'m accepting other writers for wian9k. I made a pretty new admins page, where the newly-hired admins can add their articles without it going through me first.

To apply, I added a writer application page, which can be accessed here or up in the navigational bar.

Spamalot

CNN reports that the second greatest show ever, Monty Python\'s Spamalot, has been nominated for 14 Tony awards. W00t!

In case you don\'t know, Spamalot is a Broadway musical based on the greatest movie ever made, Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It\'s sold out forever...and if you ever have a chance to get tickets, GET them, because they\'re about as rare as a competent McLean High student.

A Short Tribute to Star Trek: Enterprise

Yesterday, Star Trek Enterprise ran it\'s final show...the last one ever.

I\'m not a trekkie...in fact, Enterprise was the first Star Trek I\'d ever watched. But four years ago, my dad started watching this \"Enterprise\" show, and my 10-year-old self started watching it too.

BOSTON - The VIDEO !!!

Yes, that\'s right...I finally finished and uploaded the *exclusive* video coverage of the \'05 Boston trip.

It\'s a really hilarious video, especially if you were on the trip...but even if you weren\'t, it\'s still super-hilarious. It\'s mostly of the bus ride there and the boat/dance party, and it has a killer slideshow at the end.

The movie is in Quicktime format. If you\'re using window$, you need to go here and download quicktime first. Yes, I could easily convert it to a window$-friendly .avi file, but I\'m trying to promote Apple technology as much as possible.

Oh, and in case you\'re internet-ignorant, this video is a MASSIVE file...the largest i\'ve ever uploaded to this site. This is a *twently minute* video, and at full DVD quality, the file was over 2.4 Gb (a lot). I compressed the video for the web...so the quality is somewhat lower, and it\'s hard to read the text (especaially the credits at the end). I compressed the file to only around 116 Mb, but thats still really, really huge. Allow 15-20 minutes for it to download, even on a high-speed connection.

Yeah, these types of reactions are what I\'ve been getting lately...so I figure it\'s time to make an update. (Hey, it\'s still more than maddox has updated.) Today\'s update took freakin\' forever to write, but it needed to be done.

This is the first of a two-part special on the Langly HS Orchestra trip to boston. In this post, you\'ll find out about eeeverything that went on in Boston, in text. No video...yet. I\'m almost done with the video, and it\'ll be done and uploaded within the next week or so.

My Official Position on the Terry Schiavo Case

The New York post is done, but I thought that first I\'d give my two cents on the \"Terry Schiavo\" case.

As you undoubtedly know, the Terry Schiavo case has sparked a major debate across the nation. There\'ve been protests, angry mobs, and countless hours of TV coverage. I also noticed that many prominent members of society are speaking out about it, and because I\'m a *very* prominent member of society, I figure I\'ll speak out too.

One Whole Year of Pointless Hilarity

Wow. One year.

That\'s right. It was one year ago today - March 15th, some random day - when I sat down, and made that first xanga.

It seems like forever ago...because SO MUCH has happened to me since then. That xanga sparked an undying intrest in web design in me, and led to...well, this.

I can honestly say that one year ago, I had absolutely no idea Wian9k would turn into what it is today. In today\'s post, we reflect on key moments in wian9k history, and take selections from some of the first posts ever.

More Cowbell!!

Before we begin, we must define exactly what a \"cowbell\" is. A cowbell is a bell for a cow. Musicians, namely violin-toting orcehstra people, use them in orchestras to keep the beat. Doc likes the cowbell, because of a certian SNL sketch. He showed us the tape of that sketch, and it was pretty hilarious. So, I found it for ya.

EXLUSIVE Video of the LHS Pre-Festival Concert

Ugh...still some bugs in the site lurking in the corners...like, if you click on \"by whatsinaname9000\" below, it\'ll open up the old about page. Ill fix it eventually...i just dont hav time.

Anyway, today I\'d like to present *exclusive* wian9k video footage of the LHS Pre-Festival Concert, an overview of the concert, and explanation of the orchestras themselves.

The concert went well...although the number of attendants was in the negatives. Just kidding, actually a good number of people showed up, I haven\'t the slightest clue as to why.

This was our \"Pre-Festival\" concert - meaning that our next one will be festival, in BOSTON!!! YAY!!! We get to go to boston + play with the Boston Pops. Cool stuff.

That\'s right, after nearly two months of me breaking promises as to when the site\'d be back up, wian9k version 2 is (finally) done.

It\'s not too terribly different, but there are some noticable changes, which I\'ll go over in today\'s \"welcome back\" post.

Dave Barry\'s 2004 Year In Review

I was working on my 2004 wrap-up post, when I opened up the washington post magazine and saw Dave Barry\'s \"Year In Review.\" It was just like mine, \'cept better. I found it, and decided to use it as a post.

Don\'t worry...I\'ll do mine too, but this is just so incredibly astoundingly enormously [insert adverb here] hilarious, I just had to post it.

I\'d first like to say that Dave Barry is a hilarious guy...actually one of the things that inspired me to write was my fourth-grade teacher telling me I\'d be \"the next dave barry\" after reading one of my thingies. Of course, I had no clue as to who this Dave Barry fellow was, but it was a complement anyway. So here it is:

Happy New Year -- Part 1

Some Bible Obscurities

Man, i haven\'t posted in like forever. I\'ve been really busy (with school, among other things), and my other writers are too lazy to write anything *caugh* *lauren* *caugh*

Anyway, I got a hilarious email from an old friend today, which pointed out some bible obscurities in relation to the making fun of bush.

I found some of the things a little hard to believe, but i checked my electronic version of the bible, and it was all (hilariously) true.

Burning worlds and Orchestra Concerts

I turned on the MTV music video channel (its called MTV Hits, we get it for some reason), and I saw a very interesting video, that really made me think.

It was a song by Sarah Mclachlan (becha can\'t say her last name three times fast), called \"World on Fire.\" Now, you have to realize that I don\'t particularly *like* Sarah Mclaugchean (or whatever), and i don\'t particularly *like* the song itself. It was the video, and the truth behind it that really made me think.

I found the video online, it\'s in the full story. Oh, and my orchestra is playing tomorrow at 7:30 PM at the Langley Auditorium, if you want some laughs.

Top Ten Toys for 2004

Sorry I haven\'t been posting...but i\'ve actually got a valid reason. I\'ve been working on building (from scratch) a site for my friend mo...more on that later.

Bert the Turtle (Duck and Cover)

I came across something interesting today -- a civil defense video from the 1950s.

It was back when everyone was all paranoid about the atomic bomb. This video was shown to kids, telling them how to respond to an atomic bomb: get under your desk.

It\'s funny now, because we all know that an atomic bomb falling on a kid would make that kid a speck of charcoal. Funny, but also horrifying at the same time. Take a look.

Addicted to Axe

Okay, I know i havent updated this site in like forever, but i couldn\'t help it...I got kidnapped by Microsoft (again!) and only recently escaped. Today\'s post is one of the better ones, though. Sorry about the wait; i won\'t do anything like this again. And now for today\'s post:

I recently purchased a can of \"Axe\" spray, pictured above (the one on the left). I made this purchase due to my own curiosity, more than anything else.

You see, pretty much every guy in the school owns and regularly uses (by regularly, i mean eight to ten times a day) a can of this \"Axe\" spray. So, i decided to take it for a test drive.

Halo 2 is Evil

Halo 2 came out yesterday, causing mass hysteria and record truancy rates.
