Alex, the God of this site, is a semi-respected journalist on the Mac web. As you may have guessed, he usually writes under his pen name, Whatsinaname9000. He's written freelance columns for several sites, most prominently TheMacMind and 2guys. Alex wants to be a journalist if/when he grows up, so he's always looking for new experiences. This page features some of Alex's best/favorite work and some of his horridly conceptual brain-mushing essays.
If you'd like to contact Alex about possible writing-related work, feel free to email him at conformistrebel@gmail.com
These are some of his favorite (not necessarily best) Mac-related columns Alex has written over for various sites:
Oh man, this is the one that started it all. After I wrote this column for 2guys, I knew that writing would be my thing. I wrote this article a looong time ago, but it's still mind-numbingly hilarious.
This is my other favorite one from 2guys, also from an eternity ago (before my writing skills were...well...perfected). I really, really liked this one...still cracks me up.
iPod Linux - The Future of the iPod
I like this article because of it's popularity. It was fairly big news at the time, and was linked to by a lot of other sites. It also generated 44 comments, which is a lot. Be proud.
These horridly conceptual brain-mushing essays are about certian books/epics from when I had Carney, the horrificly sweet monster that ingrained good writing skills into my head in 9th grade English. If you see a bolded word, that's because it was a required vocab word. Don't feel bad if you don't understand what they're talking about...most people don't.
Good Earth Essay (The Good Earth)
This was my first Carney essay, so it isn't as good as the others. But it's still interesting.
That Poor Homicidal Maniac (Medea)
This essay looks at the connotation of the word 'Poor' used throughout the tradgedy of Medea.
Oh, God (Beowulf)
This is one of the better ones, i think...besides the fact that it's extremely theological. It's about how God (in Beowulf, and Anglo-Saxon epic) is not Christian. Pretty trippy, eh?
Damned Freedom (The Inferno)
This one was cooool. Awesome title, too.
Chivalrous Abandonment (Canterbury Tales - The Franklin's Tale)
*shrug* This is a pretty run-of-the-mill essay. Nothing special, but I got a good grade on it.
Untitled. (What is Love?)
This was our final essay, and consequently my best. We had to answer the question: What is love? Took freakin' forever, but this is my answer. And the title does have meaning.
Thou Shalt Not Kill (An essay on the Crusades)
This is my essay on the Christian Crusades. Boring, but informative. Super-long too...six pages, seven including works cited.
Want me, the greatest writer you'll ever come to encounter in your entire life, to write something for you? Fill out the contact form below, I'll get back to you (more options become avaliable as you select). Note: Although this may sound pretentious, I usually don't write for little blogs and stuff like that....make sure your site/publication is somewhat popular/noteworthy. Thanks.
